Samsung has rolled out loudness normalization to more phones with One UI 7. Do you think this is a good addition?
Loudness normalization sounds more like “ruin your dynamic range” to me.

It might be useful for videos, but I wouldn’t use it for music.

I hate when streaming apps have this on by default. It makes older tracks louder, but the sound quality takes a hit if you’ve got good headphones or a solid car stereo.
@Jade
Actually, most big platforms now normalize volume in a way that doesn’t mess with the dynamic range or quality. Spotify even explains it: Loudness normalization - Spotify
@Jade
I prefer how Apple Music handles it. They keep playlists or stations consistent in volume without crushing the dynamics of individual tracks. It’s great when an album transitions smoothly.

Honestly, this is probably only interesting to audiophiles.

Audiophiles don’t even use their phones for music, though.

Most audiophiles use external DACs and don’t rely on phone audio. It’s not that complicated.
@Emlyn
Sony had loudness normalization on its phones way back in early Android days.
@Emlyn
Real audiophiles use whatever setup they like, often with external DACs. It’s not about the phone.
@Emlyn
True audiophiles stick to dedicated music players, not phones… especially not phones without a headphone jack!
@Emlyn
Why the shade at Apple, though?

Some apps don’t handle audio mixing well, so normalization can help. I’d rather hear dialogue properly without explosions rattling my walls.
Why are people acting like this isn’t optional…?

The screenshot in the article literally shows a toggle for it.

Exactly. It’s off by default too.

I wish every device had this as an option. As someone with hearing issues, I could really use the extra help.
