Is Google Tasks finally coming to Calendar for Android?

Looks like they’re bringing Tasks to Google Calendar for Android. What do you all think? Will this actually make things better?

Why is it always so confusing with tasks, events, reminders, and now Gemini? And don’t forget the smart speakers. Does anything actually sync properly with all this?

It seems like Google’s teams just don’t talk to each other.

@Logan
They probably can’t talk because they’ve shut down all their messaging apps!

I’d tell them to set a reminder to talk, but… well, you know.

What’s so confusing?

Calendar is for managing both tasks and events. Events are things you attend (like meetings or parties), while tasks are things you need to get done (like sending an email).

Gemini, Google Assistant, and smart speakers can create both tasks and events, and they show up in Calendar. Keep is for notes, but you can add reminders to those notes, and they’ll appear in the tasks app too.

Google’s actually cleaned this up a lot over the past few years. It’s better than it’s ever been, in my opinion.

@Finley
This isn’t just a Google problem. Microsoft’s apps are just as confusing. They’ve got similar tools scattered across different apps, and they don’t always work together.

Actually, Microsoft apps like To Do and Outlook link up. Flagged emails show up as tasks. Did you mean something else?

@Corey
I was thinking of Microsoft Planner for tasks and OneNote for notes. I don’t think those link with each other or with Outlook.

For anyone who regularly uses Calendar and Tasks, these changes are actually a huge improvement. But people here always seem confused by it, which surprises me.

@Finley
I’m still waiting for my ‘turn on the lights in two hours’ reminder to show up somewhere so I can cancel it.

I miss reminders. They weren’t tasks or events—they were their own thing and should’ve stayed that way.

Did you know Google Contacts has contact-related reminders? Do those sync with anything else, like Keep or Calendar?

Tasks and events serve different purposes. I just want a dedicated Tasks app shortcut and a proper widget. Is that too much to ask?

Why is Google even bothering with this?

Google Calendar has never worked right for me. Permissions, different phones, you name it—still no notifications. I only use it for birthdays and holidays now. For real reminders, I stick to ColorNote. It actually works.

Please don’t kill the Tasks app. I use it all the time. Calendar? Not so much.

A Tasks app for Calendar? What does that even mean? Why not just integrate Keep properly?

This is cool and all, but I’m guessing it’ll be gone in a year or two.

Google’s approach to tasks and reminders is such a mess. As someone who cares about good design, it’s embarrassing.
