My biggest gripe on Samsung Galaxy after being back on Android is the Google/Samsung internal war in my phone

Been a lifelong Android user, but spent the last 3 years on iPhone before now being back on the S24 Ultra.

I like having things in my phone work together, and I know I can make it happen, and that it’s there by some degree from the start. But after using my phone, fresh for about a week, it’s annoying and confusing how I keep getting notifications to “set up Google Drive for this,” then “Use OneDrive for that,” “Don’t forget about setting up your Samsung Backup, now through OneDrive!”

Update “Samsung Store,” update “Play Store.” Set up your Samsung user, Google user, Microsoft user. Then there’s the “Photo gallery from Google,” the “Gallery from Samsung.”

Don’t get me wrong, I like having a choice, and I’m fine with the different ecosystems. I just think the phone should come with one or the other. And if not, at least limit notifications to one by default.

It’s hard to tell from the interface and sometimes logo, which one is Google and which one is Samsung. And they don’t really integrate together, especially in relation to backups.

That’s my only gripe with being back on Android. I like tinkering, but I also like the idea for a phone to function like “one unit” out of the box, before tinkering.

Yep. My Tab S10+ is infuriating.

This is exactly how your boomer parents lose their photos/contacts etc. They get confused with the setup regarding backups because Samsung makes it overwhelming and unclear.

@Shan
It’s true!

I’m very tech-savvy, and they’ve had me analyzing every notification and popup to see if this is something that’s needed or useful. And I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s probably 50 of them over the first week.

The biggest issue being a split backup on multiple cloud services.

@Sky
Why is it always the opposite from what people say “I’m very xxx” it always sounds ridiculous

Sounds like you have some unresolved issues you should look into. You literally have no basis on whether that’s true or not, and still, you assume that I would just throw that out there for no reason.

I agree 100%. At this point, I’m just going to go Pixel. Sure, both have their issues, but I don’t fight software issues on my Pixel tablet or any other Pixel I’ve owned nearly as much as I have with Samsung and their homegrown apps. I love the Samsung hardware, but the software is what I actually interact with and they just don’t cut it for me.

Or Google stopping forcing other manufacturers to put Gallery, Chrome, etc on their phones. So people don’t have double apps.

If you prefer a lack of options on everything, yes.

That’s literally what these clowns want.

They hate on the iPhone for lack of options and features then turn around and endorse Pixel phones like they’re the holy grail lol

@Jordan
You sideloading stuff on iOS or what?

But Google sometimes makes terrible choices when it comes to their products.

Exhibit A: the wireless charging coil on the P9PF isn’t centered with the back of the phone (when folded).

Exhibit B: the Tensor G4 sucks ass.

Exhibit C: they decided to get rid of Photo Spheres in the 9 series.

etc.

Just uninstall or disable what you don’t want.

You guys are inconvenienced by the tiniest things lmao.

Don’t you dare touch my Galleries app though. Google Photos is ass cheeks for photo management on my phone.

Well, once you finish the setup at the start, it’s usually done.

Yeah, it can be annoying, but having a choice is good. I have a P9PXL, a Tablet S8, and a Samsung watch, so I go across the two a lot, and I actually like a little choice, but to be honest, I was invested in the Google ecosystem when I was on my iPhone, so I normally stay there. Also, I have to use OneDrive at work, and it sucks ass, so I use Google Drive and Photos. Love Google Photos. One thing for sure - use Google Messages - Samsung messaging is going away eventually and doesn’t support RCS.

@Clovis
Exactly! The average user wouldn’t even know that Samsung messaging is going away, or that it doesn’t support RCS – Or what RCS is altogether.

But Samsung phones still come with two SMS apps, just for the sake of it.

That’s why ADB would be your best friend when it comes to this. You could remove all the junk you don’t need or want. Then you can pick what you want exactly.

Technically, I could also just disable it. But the OS being delivered like this is still problematic. Definitely not for people here or people that would search up these things at all, but for the average user.

Exactly why I can’t consider a Samsung, so I choose Pixel.

Samsung doesn’t allow removing their bloat at all.

It’s only a problem for you because you still have all those things activated and you’re depending on them. Just turn them off and use things that work?

As if Samsung allows removing anything normally or disables notifications?
