Anyone tried the Oppo Find X8? Got thoughts?

Here’s what I’ve noticed so far:

Good stuff:

  • IP69 rating… you can literally pressure wash it.
  • Battery life holds up, especially for streaming videos.
  • Mediatek chip feels just as fast as the latest Snapdragon.
  • Five years of OS updates and six years of security patches… not bad.
  • Cameras are solid—zoom works great, closeups are sharp, and night video is surprisingly good.
  • Wi-Fi 7, eSIM, infrared… all there.

Not-so-good stuff:

  • EU model doesn’t come with a charger in the box.
  • No dedicated camera button, which the Pro model has.

Why bother when Realme GT 7 Pro costs less and has almost the same camera hardware (minus ultrawide)? Or even the OnePlus 13 for a little extra if you care about the Hasselblad branding? If you’re okay with the D9400 chip, Samsung’s X200 is an option too.

The X8 and X8 Pro feel like they’re just here to push people towards buying the upcoming X8 Ultra. Oppo’s main flagships and Reno series don’t seem as competitive anymore, even their mid-range phones are falling behind.

@Frankie
But how much is the Ultra going to cost? The Pro is already €1200. Can’t imagine the Ultra being affordable, even if it’s better.

Ultra might not even launch globally. You could end up finding it cheaper than the Pro if you’re lucky.

@Dylan
Unless you’re importing the Pro instead, which comes with its own extra costs.

Yeah, good point.

@Frankie
You do lose wireless charging though. I’m guessing the X8 still has OIS on the 3x zoom, which the GT doesn’t.

That’s true. I saw conflicting reports about OIS on the GT7 Pro’s telephoto—some say it has it, others say it doesn’t. Realme 13 Pro+ does have OIS on a similar setup, though.

@Frankie
No OIS on the GT7 Pro telephoto. I checked Realme’s Chinese site and tested a review unit myself.

Strange… Realme’s site mentions OIS for telephoto. Maybe it only works for photos but not 4K video, kind of like how the Realme 13 Pro+ behaves?
