I created an anime calendar app: MeronPan… What do you think?

Hello Android fans!

I’m an indie developer and I wanted to share something new: MeronPan - Anime Calendar, an app to help anime lovers track their favorite shows.

I got the idea because I had trouble keeping up with anime release dates and where to watch them. I figured there had to be a simple solution, and that’s how MeronPan came to be!

What can MeronPan do?

  • Simple calendar: A clean and easy-to-use calendar that shows upcoming anime releases.
  • Detailed info: Includes airing schedules and where to watch.
  • Regular updates: The database is kept up to date with the latest releases and platform changes.

I wanted to build something I would actually use, and it’s exciting to see how people are enjoying the app.

Any feedback or suggestions are welcome! I’m open to new ideas and improvements! :blush:

How do you get the anime release dates? Do you scrape this info, crowdsource it, or do you update manually?

I think they might be using APIs from Anilist and MAL, those sites have release dates.

I like it! It’s just what I was looking for. It’s easy to use. As someone else mentioned, I’d really appreciate English titles.

Maybe you could add a synopsis for each show? It would make it easier to find new shows.

@Lior
Thanks for the feedback! Yes, English titles are coming soon. I’m not sure where to add the synopsis because there’s not a lot of space. I could make the dropdown bigger, but that might look crowded. Any ideas on how to fit it in? I’m thinking I could add a button to link to MAL or Anilist for more details.

@Zola
Here’s an example I found of how you might fit it in: https://placehold.co/600x400.png

The problem is that not all phones look the same. I tried it on one of my devices, but the card looked too cramped to add any text. The only solution would be to make the card taller, but it might get too big. The idea is to keep everything compact. I’ll try a few more tests to see if I can make it work.

By the way, did the services cut off, or did you crop the image?

@Zola
I get what you mean. My phone has a taller screen, so I still feel like there’s space left.

What do you think about showing the synopsis in a popup? That way the card wouldn’t need to change size.

The image wasn’t cut off in the app. I think it’s just how the screenshot was taken using the Samsung screenwrite feature.

Are you planning to add Anilist or MAL API integration to track show progress? It would be great to filter the calendar by show status. Also, how about adding notifications when an episode is available?

This is awesome! I’ve used Anichart before, but this will be way more convenient.

Thank you so much! :smile:

Would love this for tracking manga scan releases!

There’s a slight delay (around 2 seconds) when I click a title. I’m using a Pixel 7. Can you fix that?

If possible, could you add a reminder feature for selected titles? That would be super useful!

This is perfect timing! The current season is ending, and the new season always has a few shows starting at different times. The “Available On” feature is super helpful, I love it. I’ll be using this app a lot!

How does this differ from the MAL calendar? I already use the MAL client, which has a calendar feature that only shows anime I’m watching or planning to watch.

Are you planning to include the dubbed anime schedule as well? Maybe an option to view just dubbed shows or a way to show if a dubbed version is airing?

Also, will you add a way to view anime titles in English or Japanese (with or without pronunciations)?

What about different viewing options, like list view, cards, or calendar month view?

Are the in-app purchases to remove ads one-time or recurring?

@Peyton
Currently, dubbed anime isn’t on the roadmap, but it might be added in the future.

Yes, I’ve already done the English titles feature. I just need to build and upload it.

For now, it will only be in card view, but I’m thinking of adding a weekly table view later. Right now, I’m focusing on the mobile experience.

The in-app purchases are a one-time payment. I consider it a donation to support the app. If you want to remove ads, you can contact me privately, and I’ll help you with that. I don’t plan on making money off of this, so I’m happy to provide it for you.

@Zola
I’m bummed there’s no dub schedule, but I think the pricing model is fair.

For now, you might want to check out the /r/animedubs calendar here:

You can use the TeamUp app and bookmark it.
