Overheating Galaxy Note9?

Seemingly out of nowhere, my Note9 started being laggy and will progress to being unresponsive or turning off. I’ve restarted it and launched in safe mode which seems to fix the problem for like 5 minutes. These 5 minutes are not enough to backup my storage with Smart Switch so when I try the phone shuts off less than halfway through.

Because it works in safe mode, I assume an app is to blame. How can I identify which app is causing this and delete it? I closed all apps but the problem persists.

Edit: I did a factory reset and that seems to have fixed things although my last backup was a year ago…

Mine gets hot regularly. I use an app called Battery Doctor to cool the phone down. Works well.

Mine gets really hot when recording videos especially when it’s hot outside. It’ll just shut down my camera app. Others have said it’s probably my battery. But still functional enough.

It shouldn’t be getting hot unless you are playing a graphics heavy game. Something is constantly running at full tilt in the background and heating up the phone. You can try checking the built-in battery monitor under device care in your settings to see possibly what is using the most battery. Just click on “since last charge” and it will show you a list of apps and how much charge they are using. If you see one that is using a significant amount of battery and you aren’t using that app, delete it and reinstall it if you must. For example on mine it shows 20% usage on the YouTube app as the highest drain but I am using that app constantly so that’s to be expected. If it doesn’t show anything using a significant amount of battery that you don’t expect, you can try clearing your phones system cashe in the recovery menu by turning off the phone then holding the Bixby button, volume down and power until you get to the recovery menu and select clear system cache. If it still gets hot after that you can try uninstalling any apps you have that you don’t recognize or use. And finally you can back up and restore your phone. Use the samsung smart switch app to fully backup your phone either to a computer or SD card. I use the SD card option as it’s easier but just don’t select the option to delete the SD card when you reset. Then restore the phone after initial setup using smart switch and you will have pretty much everything on the phone restored exactly the way you had it aside from any apps that were not from the play store and you will also have to log back in to everything. Hope this helps!

Thanks, today it was bad I was watching video in the browser and it said your phone too hot and closed the app

I did the cache partition and reboot. Then did the optimize now and check the device care for the heavy usage apps always shows nothing

I only use like chatting apps, vanced, twitchmod, reddit, chrome

No games or anything

I did cache clear for reddit chrome and some other apps. The cache partition helped for a bit and I switched my phone to high performance mode too for a day it was okay then it’s back to the same thing

Might be forced to upgrade

My Note 9 was doing okay… Little slower, worse battery life, and minimal wear. But that’s all expected, everything is still original. Then the other day it stopped recognizing my sim and I have no service, GPS works poorly, seems like a hardware issue.

I had followed all steps provided by Samsung on my Note 9 (including the safe mode method), but nothing worked. Due to the current Lockdown, I didn’t even feel comfortable to approach the service centre. I was eagerly waiting for Samsung’s new update (2.1) to be released & hoped that this update will fix the screen discoloration. However, today when i finally updated the software to UI Version 2.1 (Android security patch level 01 June 2020), the green screen issue still persists on my Note 9. I am quite annoyed with Samsung not being able to provide a solution to their so called premium model phone.

As of now, the display is worse than a 100$ phone available in the market. Didn’t expect this from Samsung. I hope Samsung is listening to all the users who have invested considerable amount to buy this phone. Please… we need an immediate solution to solve the display issue.
