Google just released the December 2024 Pixel Drop update. Let’s discuss everything new, what’s missing, and any surprises.
Where’s the adaptive battery charge?

The 80% charge feature is supposed to be in this update, but it wasn’t mentioned in Google’s announcements today.

It’s a server-side update, so some people might not get it right after updating. You might need to restart or wait a bit for it to show up.
@Addison
I restarted, but it’s still not showing up for me.

That’s just how server-side updates work sometimes.

For me, I rebooted this morning and didn’t see it right away. Later, I checked for a Google Play system update, found one, and after restarting again, the 80% charge limit appeared. Weirdly, it still shows October as my update month though.

Honestly, this Pixel Drop is a letdown for EU users. A lot of features like call screen, Pixel Studio, and screenshots are missing here.
Funny enough, the feature I’m most excited about is the 80% charge limit
@Lane
Where in Europe are you? In the UK, we get call screen, studio, and screenshots.

I’m in the European Union, not the UK.

Remember, the UK left the EU a few years ago.

I know, but I’m surprised the UK has those features while the EU doesn’t.

To be fair, some stuff still applies to the UK because we’re so close to EU countries. It’s odd we got call screen, though. Maybe it’s because our data laws are still similar to the EU’s.

I’m in Germany, and I have these features too.

In Sweden, we don’t have those features. The screenshots app can be sideloaded, but we don’t get localized stuff like Germany or Spain. We could handle using the apps in English, though.

I’m on a Pixel 8 in the EU. At first, I only saw the old adaptive charge that learns your habits. No way to set a hard limit.
But I just checked again, and it’s there now. Seems like features were still enabling after booting.
This update messed up app animations in Nova Launcher. Ugh.
Nice that Pixel Watch 2 is getting Home Live View and Daily Readiness scores like Pixel Watch 3. Hardware-wise, they’re basically the same.
Also, where’s the 80% battery limit feature?
Beta swipe gestures are the only thing I’ve seen so far from this update.
I hate the new animations. Gboard updated without my permission, and now the emoji picker takes up half the screen. I want the old version back.
The new app animations and unlock animations are also awful.
