Xiaomi Redmi Pad SE 8.7 tablet review – As compact as an iPad mini but significantly cheaper

The Redmi Pad SE 8.7 offers a compact alternative to pricier tablets like the iPad Mini, but with trade-offs in performance and features due to its budget-friendly price point.

I got a Samsung Galaxy Tab A T307U 8.4" tablet on eBay for about $70 and it’s great. 1080p screen and somewhat decent performance for light tasks (reading). Great form factor. Just needed some debloating.

Helio SoC is kinda unusable with all the lags.

@Noor
There’s other things wrong with this tablet, but the CPU is just enough for turning on YouTube in 2024. It’s like a bigger version of Redmi 13c/14c you can test in store, and that can run some simpler apps.

@Zen
I have the bigger brother with a better CPU and it’s still dog slow. Maybe this runs better with a lower-res screen, but I would spend more just so it can run apps better. It’s really THAT slow.

If anyone buys this for anything other than watching media, they did quite poor research. A 1080p screen would have salvaged this much more than a better CPU while keeping its 800p screen.

@Zen
4 GB memory might be a bigger issue.

What’s the OS update cycle on this? Been considering it.

More e-waste. Great. rolleyes

…and is it as useful/capable as an iPad mini? Holy SEO headline, Batman.
